Jan McIntire
Communications and Operations Director, Canyon Ranch Institute
Jan McIntire has over 30 years of experience in marketing communications with a particular focus on health and wellness communications in recent years. In 2008, Jan joined Canyon Ranch Institute, a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization, as the organization's first-ever strategic programs manager. Canyon Ranch Institute catalyzes the possibility of optimal health for all people by translating the best practices of Canyon Ranch and our partners to help educate, inspire, and empower every person to prevent disease and choose a life of wellness.
Jan came to Canyon Ranch Institute from Canyon Ranch, which recruited her in 1992 to be the company's first marketing services director. In this role, she led a team of writers and graphic designers who produced all print and video materials targeted to Canyon Ranch guests and employees. In 1997, Jan rejoined Cessna Aircraft in Wichita, KS, as corporate communications director, contributing to the history-making restart of single-engine aircraft manufacturing and, at the other end of the spectrum, the launch of the world's fastest business jet, the Cessna Citation X.
Jan returned to Tucson, AZ, in 2001 to become Canyon Ranch's internal communications director, developing comprehensive communication tools for employees at five locations. Promoted to senior director of corporate communications in early 2006, she later became special assistant to Canyon Ranch Vice Chairman and Canyon Ranch Institute President Richard H. Carmona, M.D., M.P.H., FACS, 17th Surgeon General of the United States (2002-2006). As director of communications and operations, she oversees the preparation of the organization’s publications and Web site presence, serves as program manager for Canyon Ranch Institute's partnership with the George Washington University, and is the liaison with Canyon Ranch Institute's governance and advisory bodies and Canyon Ranch staff.
Jan holds a bachelor of arts in psychology from Wayne State University in Detroit, MI. She is a self-described "evangelist" for healthy living and spends personal time with her nose in a book or her hands in garden dirt.
