CRI President Dr. Carmona Discusses Chronic Disease Prevention and Management at Statewide Community Forum in Ohio
The Ohio Chapter of the Partnership to Fight Chronic Disease (PFCD) hosted a statewide forum on chronic disease on May 29 in Columbus, Ohio. Richard H. Carmona, M.D., M.P.H., FACS, president of Canyon Ranch Institute, 17th Surgeon General of the United States (2002-2006), and chairperson of the PFCD, opened the event by providing a national view of chronic disease prevention and management and the goals of the PFCD.
The keynote address was followed by a panel discussion that highlighted several chronic disease prevention and management efforts underway in Ohio. Panelists included Mike Collins, administration team member for the Ohio Physical Activity Plan; Ernie Boyd, executive director of the Ohio Pharmacists Association; Joe San Filippo, chief healthcare specialist for Nationwide Better Health; Dr. Ratna K. Palakodeti, vice speaker of the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians board of directors; and Nan Alexander Migliozzi, chief of the Injury Prevention Section, Bureau of Health Promotion and Risk Reduction, Ohio Department of Health.
Forum attendees included Ohio PFCD partners, state legislators, policy advisors, health advocates, statewide associations and businesses, and representatives from the Ohio Departments of Health, Insurance, Aging, and Administrative Services.
