Dr. Arthur Culbert: Health Literacy Missouri
St. Louis Business Journal – August 27, 2010
Arthur Culbert, Ph.D., president and chief executive officer of Health Literacy Missouri, was named a 2010 Health Care Hero by the St. Louis Business Journal for his efforts to increase the health literacy of Missourians. In 2009, Health Literacy Missouri and the Missouri Foundation for Health awarded a grant to Canyon Ranch Institute (CRI) and Sullivan County Memorial Hospital to develop a CRI Life Enhancement Program for residents of Sullivan County, MO. The CRI LEP in Sullivan County aims to transfer the best practices of Canyon Ranch to Sullivan County to increase health literacy and to prevent, diagnose, and address chronic diseases through an integrative health model.

Hundreds at benefit concert for women's heart health concert
Arizona Daily Star – August 26, 2010
Jazz legends Nick Colionne and Paul Taylor performed to a crowd of over 500 concertgoers at the “Heart and Soul Benefit Concert” presented by CRI partner organization MGA Global Foundation . The concert was held to raise awareness of heart health and education for women. The Arizona Daily Star quotes CRI President Richard H. Carmona , M.D., M.P.H., FACS as saying, “Cardiovascular health has a disparity in women of color, and we’re here to shine light on the risk factors.”

Experts say patients are focus in future health care system
The Denver Post – July 30, 2010
Hundreds of health policy and health reform leaders convened at the Colorado Health Foundation symposium in Keystone, CO, to share their ideas on the future of the health care system. Experts agreed that a patient-centered system and payment reform are necessary to improve the quality and costs of health care. To accomplish this, CRI President Richard H. Carmona, M.D., M.P.H., FACS, 17th U.S. Surgeon General (2002-2006), who gave a keynote at the conference, said that the U.S. health care system must be transformed from a system focused on treating disease to one focused on prevention.
