There are 12 million Americans living with cancer today. This year, 1.4 million Americans will be diagnosed with cancer, and 560,000 will lose their lives to the disease. Cancer is a public health crisis that touches every American and costs our economy more than $400 billion per year. In 2008, Canyon Ranch Institute developed the National Call to Action on Cancer Prevention and Survivorship in partnership with four U.S. Surgeons General and a diverse group of cancer prevention and survivorship experts.

CRI and NCTA Community Host 2010 Workshop: Innovation in the War on Cancer

March 15, 2010 – Washington, D.C.

The National Call to Action Community, in partnership with Canyon Ranch Institute, the American Institute for Cancer Research, Cancer Support Community, C-Change, LIVESTRONG, and the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA), hosted the 2010 Workshop: Innovation in the War on Cancer in Washington, D.C. The Workshop convened stakeholders from all sectors of society to evaluate accomplishments and identify next steps in making the continuum of cancer prevention and survivorship a national priority. Richard H. Carmona, M.D., M.P.H., FACS, president of Canyon Ranch Institute, presented the opening keynote address. The midday keynote address was presented by Howard Koh, M.D., M.P.H., Assistant Secretary for Health, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
