Partnership to Fight Chronic Disease Reviews 2010 Accomplishments on Behalf of Health Care Reform, Makes Strategic Plans for 2011

CRI partner the Partnership to Fight Chronic Disease (PFCD) renewed its commitment to helping to ensure that implementation of the health care reform legislation advances prevention and management of chronic disease at its December 16, 2010, Policy Working Group meeting in Washington, D.C. PFCD made its greatest impacts in 2010 through working with policymakers to shape implementation geared to health quality improvement, highlight what is working as models for replication, encourage coordination at the highest levels of the public and private sectors to assure consistent focus on health and quality improvements, and build support for addressing chronic disease as long-term strategy for deficit reduction.
November 19-24, 2009 – Changsha City, Hunan Province, China
CRI and our partner the Partnership to Fight Chronic Disease (PFCD) were invited to meet with Chinese leaders as part of a health diplomacy visit to share information about health care reform in the United States, as well as discuss the best practices in U.S. health promotion and disease prevention. CRI President Richard H. Carmona, M.D., M.P.H., FACS, and national chairperson of the PFCD, and CRI executive director and board member and member of the PFCD Advisory Board, Jennifer Cabe, M.A., traveled to China for meetings with members of the Chinese Government, leading corporations, and the media, as well as clinicians, health scientists, public health practitioners, and economists, to share their expertise in disease prevention, health literacy, and management of chronic disease.

CRI Leadership Renews Commitment to the Partnership to Fight Chronic Disease

At the final Partnership to Fight Chronic Disease (PFCD) Advisory Board meeting of 2008, Richard H. Carmona, M.D., M.P.H., FACS, president of CRI and national chairperson of PFCD, and Ken Thorpe, Ph.D., executive director of PFCD, reflected on the dedication and accomplishments of the organization's members. More than 120 national organizations, including Canyon Ranch Institute, are partners in PFCD. At this meeting of the PFCD Advisory Board, Dr. Carmona, Dr. Thorpe, and PFCD members, including Jennifer Cabe, M.A., CRI executive director and board member, renewed their commitment to educating the public and our nation's policymakers on the need to better prevent and manage chronic disease.
