There are 12 million Americans living with cancer today. This year alone, 1.4 million Americans will be diagnosed with cancer, and 560,000 will lose their lives to the disease. Cancer is a public health crisis that touches every American and costs our economy more than $400 billion per year.

LIVESTRONG Day is the Lance Armstrong Foundation’s one-day initiative to unite people affected by cancer in raising awareness of cancer issues on a global level and in communities across the country.

On Thursday, October 8, 2009, Canyon Ranch Institute (CRI) and the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF) hosted a special CRI LIVESTRONG Day Celebration on the Canyon Ranch and CRI campus in Tucson, AZ.

The CRI LIVESTRONG Day Celebration featured live and silent auctions, a taste of the world-renowned Canyon Ranch resort environment including Canyon Ranch cuisine by award-winning Canyon Ranch Corporate Chef Scott Uehlein, and live music.

In addition to experiencing an evening of Canyon Ranch’s fine cuisine and ambience, participants in the CRI LIVESTRONG Day Celebration supported the missions of CRI and LAF to empower all people to live healthier lives. All proceeds from this event are equally shared by CRI and LAF, both of which are non-profit organizations that are making a positive difference in the lives of millions of people. CRI and LAF are partnering to increase cancer prevention and survivorship in the United States and around the world.

Highlights of the live and silent auctions included:

  • Take a “Ride with Lance” — The opportunity to ride with Lance Armstrong, seven-time Tour de France champion and Chairman and Founder of LAF, during the LIVESTRONG Challenge in Austin, Texas on October 25, 2009, or the fall 2010 LIVESTRONG Challenge if preferred (2010 date to be determined by LAF).
