In 2007, Canyon Ranch Institute (CRI) and the University of Arizona Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health (MEZCOPH) formed a partnership based on mutual interest in community-based public health research and intervention programs.

Located in Tucson, AZ, the MEZCOPH is dedicated to promoting the health of communities in the southwest and globally with an emphasis on achieving health equity through excellence in education, research, and service. The MEZCOPH acts with respect and integrity to continuously advance health and well-being for all through knowledge, collaboration, empowerment, advocacy, and sustainability.

The first program initiated by the CRI-MEZCOPH Partnership is the Healthy Steps for Families Demonstration Project.
